Maximize Your Space: Build a Wine Cellar Under the Stairs

Custom Wooden Wine Racks: Perfect for Traditional Wine Cellars

Tastefully designed custom wine racks for home wine cellar under stairs

To bring this exquisite wine cellar under stairs to life, we carefully planned every design aspect. We began by demolishing walls to assess the space and conceptualize our vision.

The result is a showcase of beautiful wooden wine racking in various orientations, creating a unique and visually captivating display for the wine collection.

A stylish wine rack design is of utmost importance as it enhances the visual appeal of your space and ensures the proper storage and organization of your wine collection.

Beyond being a mere storage solution, a well-designed wine rack becomes a statement piece that reflects your taste and passion for wine. It showcases your bottles elegantly and organized, making selecting and enjoying your favorite wines easy.

Additionally, a thoughtfully crafted wine rack ensures that your bottles are stored securely and in the ideal horizontal position, preserving the wine’s quality and aging potential.

Striking Design of these Wooden Wine Racks for the Wine Cellar Under Stairs in an Orange County Home

A stylish wine rack elevates the overall wine experience, creating a focal point in your home and leaving a lasting impression on guests. It is an essential addition for any wine enthusiast.

The elegant wooden racks feature a natural-colored finish, providing a charming and timeless appeal. We designed unique storage configurations tailored to the owner’s desires, offering classic cork-forward 750ml storage.

It also has low open storage for books, lattice X-cubes, and horizontal lattice displays, with ample space to accommodate up to 405 bottles and room for around 100 more through crate storage.

Impressive Features of this Glass Wine Cellar Door

This wine cellar beneath the stairs exemplifies two key principles through its wine racks, door, and window. To the right of the partially glass wine cellar is a “peek-a-boo” window facing the staircase and living room.

This arched, dual-paned, tempered glass window is framed with alder wood. When standing in front of it, it beautifully frames part of the wine cellar racking and collection inside, resembling an artwork.

On the front side of the wine cellar is a large dual-paned glass door framed with alder wood. The wood framing features laminated veneer lumber (LVL), which is very resistant to moisture and warping.

The wine cellar door has an automatic lock at the bottom. The lever rises when the door is opened and instantly drops down when the door is shut.

The incorporation of glass into the enclosure makes this wine cellar under stairs stand out. It allows people outside the cellar to be mesmerized by what’s inside, whether in the hallway, living room, or going up the stairs!

Choosing the Most Suitable Wine Cellar Cooling System

The traditional home wine cellar under stairs has a unique feature – a fully refrigerated space under the staircase. This was achieved by utilizing the small space under the staircase, just enough to fit the coils and the evaporator.

Our Custom Wine Cellars Orange County experts demolished the walls to access this space and install the cooling system. A split-system cooling unit was used, with the condenser in a separate machine. The condenser itself is 18×18 inches, but we custom-built a housing that’s about 30×30 inches. A custom-built housing called the “doghouse” was created to protect the condenser.

This housing is designed to optimize airflow and is made with exterior-grade materials to protect the condenser from heat, wind, and rain.

Thicker Insulation for Better Humidity of Home Wine Cellar Under Stairs

After running the electrical wiring, we applied 4 inches of closed-cell foam insulation to the walls to prevent moisture buildup. In areas with floating floors, insulation is usually installed under the floorboards to seal the air gap.

However, since this wine cellar’s concrete flooring was designed similarly to the rest of the house, there was no need to add insulation in that area.

We had a wonderful experience with CWC. They were very professional and guided us thru every step of the process. Their design was terrific and we couldn't be more happy with the finished product. They built and installed a "statement" piece in our home and we have had so many "WOW" comments from friends and family. They far exceeded our expectations and I would give them the highest recommendation.

Great experience with CWC! They took a wonky space in our home and gave it a purpose and made it a showpiece. They gave us great design suggestions for both functionality and aesthetics. The cooling unit is very quiet and efficient. The woodworking is beautiful. The accent lighting on the shelving adds the finishing touch. Their work crews were professional and meticulous. We can’t wait to have our friends over for wine.

Thank goodness I found Steve and Customer Wine Cellars when our wine cellar stopped working 2 years ago. Steve and his team have been incredibly responsive and their service has been fantastic. I love that their supervisor David and their service guy Cristobal text me when they are on their way and they treat our home with care. They have set us up for preventative maintenance service calls every 6 months which gives me peace of mind. Highly recommend!
