Designing Glass Modern Wine Cellars with an Artistic Approach
Designing glass wine cellars for intricately designed contemporary homes requires the right combination of style and materials that fit the home’s aesthetics perfectly. Steve and his team have been providing high-quality construction services for decades, and they know everything it takes to build a modern glass wine cellar in a California home.
One of their clients from Orange County built an elegant wine cellar in her living room. Particularly, she wanted a display of her wine collection similar to a centerpiece. With that being said, we were able to lay out a wine display room situated in the center of the living room. Aside from being able to store a large number of wine bottles, it also serves as a center of attraction for all the client’s guests and visitors.

Orange County Homes Modern Wine Cellars: The Design Process
Steve, a master at creating modern home wine cellars, and his team have successfully finished countless modern wine cellar projects for each and every one of his clients across California. Each customized wine cellar innovation is designed to meet the client’s needs, providing them with beautiful and advanced wine storage solutions.
For this particular project, the client was very satisfied and happy with the results. The wine room is on full display in the center of the living room, behaving like a modern work of art in a museum.
To achieve this remarkable design, a pillar was demolished to accommodate the needed space and area where the cellar will be constructed. They finalized the layout for the cooling system’s installation by building an open core. This open core is where the copper lines will run through to connect to the condensing unit outside the house.
The evaporation coils are well-hidden behind a mirrored wall attached to one side of the pillar. The mirrored wall serves as the back of the wine closet, hiding the pillar in the front view, mimicking a full glass appearance on all sides.
A spray foam application was also installed behind the mirror wall from top to bottom, providing enough insulation to prevent mold and air gaps. Lastly, plywood was placed on the top to hold and soften the weight coming from the cables holding the wine bottles.
Combining Modernism and Minimalism
This modern home wine cellar was designed to be a sophisticated yet approachable storage space for all of the client’s favorite wine bottles. This wine cellar that features a clean, modern style with minimalist, clutter-free elements will surely add luxury to their home.
Multi-Functional Acrylic Light Panels
An impressive addition that the crew came up with is the adjustable modern LED lighting that makes the wine cellar an eye-turning attraction for the whole room. The ¾ acrylic light panels situated at the top and bottom sections put the whole collection on constant display. The soft white lighting is easy on the eyes, not too bright, and adjustable for whatever mood you want to achieve.
Moreover, the light panels are customized to hold the cable system or the pegs supporting the wine bottles. What’s fascinating about these customized modern LED panels is that they serve as dual-purpose, both for lighting and wine racking support.
Minimalist Wine Racking System
The Cable Racking System is a clean and minimalist way to display your bottles. Although it is not focused on maximizing the storage capacity, the client intended this to be more like a valuable art piece inside her home. Nonetheless, modern wine cable racks are still capable of holding around 85 bottles because of their triple-deep design.
The shiny cables give off an appealing glow to the area. Combined with the LED lighting panels, this further makes the wine cellar a luxurious and expensive attraction for visitors to marvel at.

Mirror and Glass Walls: Fundamental Materials of Modern Design
Going back to the mirrored wall panel, it is one of the most modern and innovative installations for this home wine cellar. Aside from hiding the pillar from the front view, its reflection creates an illusion to make the whole small modern wine cellar bigger and wider.
The mirror panel also effectively hides other components, like the cooling system’s evaporator coils. This ingenious planning for the mirrored panel design maintains fully minimalistic and modern aesthetics by effectively hiding the coils in plain sight.
The complete glass enclosure makes it seem like a prized display at a museum, where you can’t help but turn your gaze at this compact modern wine closet masterpiece. Steve and his team of experts used ½-inch frameless, tempered glass for its walls. The most striking benefit of tempered glass is that it helps prevent condensation inside the area. It also works hand in hand with the spray foam application to protect the enclosed wine room from external humidity and temperature changes.
A Heavy-Duty Cooling System for a Compact-Sized Modern Wine Closet
Choosing a suitable cooling system for modern wine rooms is definitely a challenging task. Steve’s crew found a unique solution suitable for this project which is the CVT cooling unit. This product is only available from US Cellars Systems, the sole manufacturer of this cooling equipment.
Installing the cooling unit for this compact space was tricky, especially since you have to consider the overall aesthetics of the cellar area. However, with Steve’s expertise, they were able to install the cooling system vents through the mirrored panel without compromising the wine room area’s style and quality.
Maintaining the optimum wine temperature and humidity is critical for any wine cellar. The spray foam application done by the team was a massive help in insulating the wine cellar. A U-channel added to the top and bottom was built to insulate the wine closet from the temperature outside. The tempered glass application also deters condensation and protects the wine cellar from external temperature and humidity fluctuation.
The most critical function a wine cellar should have is optimum humidity and temperature levels. A U-channel was added alongside the spray-foam application working together to insulate the temperature outside properly. The tempered glass, on the other hand, is responsible for deterring condensation. This protects the wine closet from fluctuating external humidity and temperature levels.
