Glass Home Wine Cellar in Orange County: a Work of Art

This Orange County Glass Wine Cellar is a Work of Art
San Clemente, Orange County Glass Wine Cellar

A client in California sought the help of Custom Wine Cellars Orange County in building a glass home wine cellar in their dining room. The satisfaction and happiness of the owner made all our efforts worthwhile. We enclosed the wine display area in glass and installed metal wine racks and attractive lighting.

Orange County Glass Home Wine Cellar: Design Features

A well-built wine storage structure will increase the aesthetic value of your space and provide ease of access to your favorite vintages. Our team is dedicated to providing innovative wine storage solutions tailored to the specific needs of every client.

In one of our projects in San Clemente, Orange County, California, the homeowners sought our help building a contemporary wine room in their dining area. They wanted a clear view of their wine collection, so we created a glass residential wine cellar with elegant and functional features.

Before the construction started, there was an existing wine bar and beam in the space where the wine room is currently built. We demolished the countertop and flooring.

With many years of experience in the wine cellar construction industry, no challenges can hinder us from building functional and stylish wine rooms. The limited space made it quite challenging to install the wine cooling unit. Despite of that, we made sure that we exceeded our client’s expectations.

Wine Racks for the Glass Home Wine Cellar in San Clemente, Orange County

In every wine room we build, we always ensure that our client’s needs and requirements are met.  Designing the wine racks requires skills and knowledge as there will be considerations to develop a design that stands out and makes wine management convenient.

In this glass home wine cellar project, it was easy to design and install the wine racks. We utilized the wine storage system provided by VintageView. We stained them using a Black Stain finish to complement the glass enclosure and the elegant décor of the home.

The framed metal wine racks look sophisticated as they go from floor to ceiling. Most parts of the racking were intended for standard bottles, and we also included sections for 33 magnum bottles. To maximize the capacity of the small space, we decided to place 3-deep wine racks facing the front wall and single-deep wine racks at the back. With a label-forward orientation, the labels are facing out, allowing for easy perusal of the wines. Locating a specific type of wine will be easier.

We also offer different styles of VintageView wine racks, including the Evolution Series, W-Series, Vino Series, and Freestanding Series. VintageView’s products offer design and installation flexibility, not to mention their elegant appeal, making them in demand in wine cellar design.

Glass Walls and Doors

We used frameless glass panels for the glass enclosure. We inserted insulation materials in a matte black U-channel where the panels are built for stability. The insulation helps in regulating the conditions inside the refrigerated wine cellar.

We applied spray foam insulation within the ceiling and U-channels to help achieve the ideal environment and prevent wine storage problems. With the correct insulation, temperature fluctuations and varying humidity levels will be prevented.

We installed two pairs of doors on the front display of this glass home wine cellar in San Clemente. We equipped them with pivot hinges and steam seals. The backside of the wine cellar consists of two frameless glass panels that are not movable.

Wine Cellar Cooling System: Ideal Type and Brand

Premature aging of wines is caused by too much heat or light exposure. It can result in wine spoilage and lead to costly damages. The ideal temperature is 55 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Therefore, working with an HVAC expert will ensure that the correct size and type of climate control system is chosen for your project.

Installing the wine refrigeration unit was a challenge because of the small space allotted for the wine room. To ensure we were doing the right thing, we coordinated with Dan, the leading specialist of US Cellar Systems.

After a heat load calculation and careful assessment considering the essential factors, we chose the LPQ 12000 TE Split Cooling System with the following features:

  • 12,000 BTU and 1 ½ horsepower
  • Requires very low maintenance
  • Operated quietly
  • Easily removable drain pan
  • Molded fan guards and blades
  • Textured heavy-gauge aluminum cabinet
  • Thermal expansion valve (standard) installed
  • Pre-installed valves eliminate additional wiring to the thermostat
  • Standard pump-down solenoid valve to protect the compressor in the event of leaks
  • ETL certified

Wine Cellar Lighting

It is best to consult with a master builder when choosing a wine cellar lighting system for your wine room. In this San Clemente, Orange County glass home wine cellar, we installed LED lights. We understand that traditional light bulbs emit UV rays, which can alter the chemical properties of the wines, resulting in deterioration.

LED lighting is safe and effective because they have low heat and no UV light emission. Moreover, it has low energy consumption and has a longer lifespan compared to other types of lighting. In this project, we placed the lights strategically throughout the wine storage structure to highlight the bottles beautifully.

We had a wonderful experience with CWC. They were very professional and guided us thru every step of the process. Their design was terrific and we couldn't be more happy with the finished product. They built and installed a "statement" piece in our home and we have had so many "WOW" comments from friends and family. They far exceeded our expectations and I would give them the highest recommendation.

Great experience with CWC! They took a wonky space in our home and gave it a purpose and made it a showpiece. They gave us great design suggestions for both functionality and aesthetics. The cooling unit is very quiet and efficient. The woodworking is beautiful. The accent lighting on the shelving adds the finishing touch. Their work crews were professional and meticulous. We can’t wait to have our friends over for wine.

I love that their supervisor David and their service guy Cristobal text me when they are on their way and they treat our home with care. They have set us up for preventative maintenance service calls every 6 months which gives me peace of mind. Highly recommend!
